John's Story
Life
Graduated from C.E. Ellison High School and left Killeen in 1985 to Cairo, Egypt where my father worked as an Army Attache at the American Embassy. I worked for the State Dept, specifically, the Agency for International Development for 2 years and traveled around Europe and Africa for a year. My family and I returned to the US and in April 1988, I joined the Army.... Happily married! I went back to Egypt in 2000, built a house in Jacksonville, FL in 2001. After 15 years, We moved to Fredericksburg, VA. Life now is very busy and fun: mentoring a young couples, being an uncle to my four lovely nieces, one nephew, and being a Godfather. But most of all, enjoying being a husband to Shannon and a daddy to Jade Rhiannon born November 1st, 2005.
School
Well, as an Army brat bouncing from school to school both in the US and abroad, my family finally settled in Ft. Hood,Texas from 1976 to 1985. Then we left for Cairo, Egypt in July of '85 (right after I graduated from high school. After 2 years in Cairo, we returned to the States. I joined the Active Duty Army ...Expand for more
in 1988 and the Reserves in 1996. This year I begin my journey reach my academic goals: AS in Criminal Justice, BS in Project Management with a focus on Logistics Management, and then an International MBA.
Workplace
From Active Army until April 1996, Reserves 1996 to current, several private security jobs and a two year stint as an insurance claims analyst for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, 5 years at Merrill Lynch as a Business Financial Specialist/Adviser, and a brief stint at Fidelity Investments. Currently, I am working for an international logistics company and spend most of the year overseas Afghanistan and UAE (DUbai).
Military
Narcotics investigator, military policeman, a handful of deployments (Iraq twice!), humanitarian assistance (El Salvador '02), protective service details (including Clinton while in Bosnia 97-98), OEF/OIF March '03-June '04: physical security, convoy escorts, dodging IED's (improvised Explosive Devices). Left the service in 2005. Ok, life is going well and in March '07 I decided to complete my 20, so I have reenlisted.
